The Club will offer our “Beginning Runners Program” – instructed by Don McMahill starting on March 13 and continuing every Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30pm at the Club. This program for beginners will prepare participants to run in their first ever 5K to be scheduled later in May, 2012. Cycle to Farm Bike Ride

We are delighted to announce that this Summer, several members of the Club (Jennifer Caldwell-Billstrom and David Bilstrom) are putting together a “metric Century Ride” which is 62 miles in length that will attract local and regional bike enthusiasts to Black Mountain on Saturday, June 23rd, 2012. The ride is unique in that the rest stops along the ride will be staffed by local organic farm groups and the proceeds from the event will support Black Mountain Greenway Projects. The event will start and finish at the Club and there are sponsorship options for local businesses available by contacting Jennifer or David. Sponsors on board already in addition to the Club are Greenway Grocery, Artisan Grocery, Dynamite Coffee and more to come. They already have a web-site up for the event: http:www.//cycletofarm.org.

Weather Policy for Club

As has been the case for several years, when the weather gets dicey (snow, ice, etc.), we use the Buncombe County School announcement to spread the word about whether we will be having classes and childcare in the mornings. Please use the TV, radio or e-mail to check the school closing announcements to see if the Club will have classes or the KidZone open as usual. As the day goes along (and gets warmer?), we will make the decision at 12:oo noon, as to whether we will be having afternoon or evening classes or if the KidZone is going to be open. Please call the Club at 664-0400 if you’d like to check about your particular class.
The Club will make EVERY effort to open up even in the worst of weather situations, but with many of the class instructors and KidZone staff having kids of their own to account for, it’s for everyone’s safety that we may have to limit classes or our child watch program (KidZone). Thanks for your membership and your understanding.

Womens’ cycling group is forming.

One of our Fitness Club members, Jennifer Caldwell, has offered to start leading womens only cycling rides this Fall, just in time to enjoy the colors and crisp weather that we’ve been experiencing lately. The rides are no-charge and once that she gets a group together and determines the time frame, we will be glad to host the Start/Finish and you don’t even have to be a member to participate (of course, we’d love your membership). You can reach Jennifer Caldwell by e-mail at velogirlcpa@gmail.com to express your interest and get more details. She has led rides for several years before moving back to the Black Mountain area, so we love having her start up a new exercise tradition.   ALL levels of riders invited!!
